August 2011

Dear Springdale Families:
Welcome to the 2011-‐2012 school year!

This will be a very exciting year for Springdale as we move into a new era in the school’s long history. My vision is to continue to honor Springdale’s rich traditions and to infuse them with a renewed commitment to academic excellence for all of our students.

For those of you who are new to the school this year, I’d like to share with you a little about myself. I was honored to be named Principal of Springdale effective July 1st, 2011. I joined the Springdale community in July, 2010 as Assistant Principal having spent three years at Rogers as Assistant Principal and ten years at Toquam Magnet in a variety of teaching and administrative positions. Prior to joining the field of education, I had a business career in sales and marketing with Duracell Battery Company. I reside in Stamford and my three grown children attended Stamford Public Schools.

Helping me in this very important work is Ms. Laura Lynam who will serve as the Assistant Principal of Springdale. I’m proud to say that Laura is a product of the Stamford Public School system. She taught at Stark School for twelve years and most recently served as the district’s Curriculum Associate for Elementary Math. She is also a recent graduate of the Urban School Leadership Fellows program.

I hope that also helping me in this important work will be you, the parents and guardians of our wonderful students! Parental involvement is an essential ingredient in a child’s academic achievement. You can help by communicating with your child’s teacher, attending school functions and showing your child how much you value education. We must work as a team to guide the children toward success.

I look forward to a challenging and productive year with you and your children!

Sincerely,

Anne Downey

Principal
